Du Plevaux Range From IBL Wins Two Medals at International Wine Challenge 2012
Du Plevaux Pinotage, 2010 and Du Plevaux Shiraz, 2010 produced by Imbuko Wines and distributed by International Brands Limited (IBL Wines), were awarded Silver and Commended medals, respectively, at the highly prestigious IWC 2012 (International Wine Challenge).
Charles Metcalfe, Co-Chairman of the IWC, says: “The IWC is the most influential wine contest in the world. Its global reputation means that winning an award is a tremendous achievement, and brings the award-winning wine to the attention of an international audience”.
Charles Metcalfe adds: “Medal-winning wines have the guarantee of being tasted by some of the world’s best, most impartial tasters. So the consumer can be guided and reassured by the IWC logo when it comes to selecting wines of quality and character”.
Over 400 experienced judges, including many Masters of Wine, meticulously tasted the IWC’s medal-winning wines, with marks given for faithfulness to variety, country, region and vintage. Each wine is tested at least three, and sometimes up to six times, so wine lovers can be confident when choosing a wine featuring the IWC logo that it has been rigorously judged.
The renowned and respected panel of Co-Chairmen – Tim Atkin MW, Sam Harrop MW, Charles Metcalfe, Derek Smedley MW, along with global wine expert and TV personality Oz Clarke, were joined by Peter McCombie MW who takes his place on the panel for the first time this year.
A record 50 different countries entered the competition with over 376 different grape varietals.
Of Du Plevaux Pinotage, 2010, the judges said: “some bright red & black cherry flavours. Leaner mid-palate. Crunchy, firm tannins. Spicy finish”.
The Imbuko Winery prides itself on its sustainable farming methods and its ethical employment policies. Sales of De Pleuvaux wines go towards supporting the winery’s crèche and education centre, which benefits the children of those who work to produce and distribute the wines.
Sales Director, Paul Hinks, says: “We are delighted that our Du Plevaux range has been recognised at this year’s IWC – highlighting the quality of the wines being produced by Imbuko, our partner in South Africa and testament to the hard work of winemaker, Theunis Van Zyl and his team. Being able to use the IWC accreditation on these wines will further reassure our consumers that they are making the right decision when selecting our wines.”
